RENOVATION OF THE INTERIOR OF THE CHURCH
Now that the interior of the church is drying out, we are turning our attention to the renovation and redecoration of the interior.
Having looked at many options, the PCC feel that it is best to press ahead with the essential restoration work which will give more time to consider ambitious plans to reorder the west end with a mezzanine floor, improved kitchen area and spaces for various youth groups.
Initial work will also provide an opportunity to replace the heating system that is on its last legs and upgrade the lighting and sound system. Fortunately, the insurance claim for damage caused during the roof repair work will help to cover some of the costs.
The first phase may involve removing the pews to install under-floor heating, which will enable us, through a temporary faculty, to assess the impact of an ‘open church’ and the various forms of seating (chairs, pews, new mobile oak pews or a mix). The target date for the work is January – July 2018 and would probably be in 2 stages in order that the church could continue to be used.
