The much anticipated evening, attended by over 250 people from the local communities of our 5 parishes, was a vibrant celebratory welcome for Matt and his family. Led by the Venerable Douglas Dettmer, Archdeacon of Totnes, and supported by our church Patrons, over 30 members of the Clergy from the surrounding area and representatives of our local government, schools, youth groups and fire brigade, Matt is now officially our new Vicar.
Symbolically placing Matt’s hand on the door of the church, the Archdeacon inducted him into the “real and actual possession of the benefice of Modbury, Bigbury, Ringmore, Kingston and Aveton Gifford with all the rights and responsibilities that belong to it”.
With everyone’s support, Matt and his young family embark upon a new chapter in their lives, heralding also a new era for the Modbury Mission Community. These words from the book of Matthew were shared during the service: “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” and formed the theme for the Archdeacon’s sermon. We look forward to bringing in the Lord’s harvest as we join Matt in his walk with the Lord.
